Depth of field - the distance, in front of and behind the plane on which the lens is focused, in which objects in the image appear sharp.
An example of how the scene may look is a fence that travels backwards, but seems to curve.

12-4
Perspective - the illusion of depth in the picture, the apparent distance from the cam-corder to the farthest part of the scene.

12-5
An example of how your choice of lens can alter the perspective of the shot is when using a telephoto lens.  The telephoto lens reduces apparent depth , bringing distant objects closer.
